QUADRISSUM

The earth’s last dull thud faded away, and with it something let go that had been holding on for a long time. Silence spread, yet it was not empty, it held, and out of darkness came light-not suddenly, but like a hesitant thought daring to come into being. Where there had just been cold, a gentle knowing arose: I am still here. Something loosened from the name, from the body, from the having-to. Death showed no face, but opened a space. I do not know when I arrived. Perhaps that is the first thought one loses here: when. On Earth, time was a ruler, an unforgiving metronome that measured everything, judged everything, and in the end took everything. Here aboard the Quadrissum there is no beat. No before. No after. Only a gentle being that expands like a breath that never ends. The ship glides through something one might call space—if space still had meaning here. It is there, and yet it is not. Even when this place crosses Earth, it remains unnoticed. No eye sees it, no hand could touch it. As if it were a thought of the universe, too quiet to be heard. I often stand at one of the great windows. Or I think I do. Bodies are less solid here than memories. Outside spreads what humans call “outer space”: stars like flickering promises, planets like resting thoughts. Sometimes Earth drifts past. I watch it for a long time, without knowing that I come from there. There are many aboard—children, adults, the old. Or at least beings who must once have been all of these. You cannot see it in them. Age leaves no imprint here. No face bears traces of suffering, no posture tells of pain. And yet we are not alone—even if we do not see one another. I know others are here. I feel them the way one feels warmth without seeing a flame. Nearness without touch. Communion without words. No one speaks, and yet everything is said. There is no war here, no peace. Not because peace was won, but because the opposition never existed. Hatred, envy, greed… these words lose their meaning, like an alphabet whose letters have been forgotten. Healthy, ill—these too are concepts that had to remain behind at the threshold. It is like a dream. But not the fleeting dream of night that dissolves upon waking. Rather a deep, lucid state in which nothing is missing and nothing is too much. In dreams, seeing Earth like an echo—images of smoking cities, of seas losing their color, of forests falling silent. I feel the weight of wars born of fear and hatred, disguised as conviction. I remember a world that could no longer carry itself. The people there believed they had to control everything. They tore from the ground what did not belong to them. They divided themselves into camps, nations, ideologies. They fought over borders while poisoning the ground beneath their feet—and they called it life. Here aboard the Quadrissum, none of that is relevant. No one asks what you were. No one asks what you did. Guilt does not exist as a burden, at most as a distant understanding. There is no test, no judgment, no goal that must be reached—only being. I wonder, without truly asking, why the living are so afraid of death. Perhaps because they believe it to be an ending, a darkness, a nothingness. But here there is no nothing. Here there is vastness. Here there is silence that is not empty, but full. Full of a peace that was not fought for. Full of a belonging that demands nothing. The Quadrissum is one ship among many. Some cross other worlds, other dimensions, other stories. We do not meet one another. And yet we are part of the same current. No one knows where souls come from. Origin is an earthly idea, born of the desire to define oneself. I do not know whether I am happy. Happiness is a word of lack. But I am complete. As if something had been returned to me that I did not know I had lost. When I think of Earth—of the haste, the fear, the constant obligation—I sometimes wish that people could take a look through this window. Not to flee. But to understand that the end they fear is not an abyss. It is a passage, a quiet step from heaviness into weightlessness. Perhaps that is the purpose of the Quadrissum: simply to be there—as a possibility, as a promise that need not be heard to be true. That life is not possession, that time is not everything, and that death is not an enemy, but a door that opens without a sound.

No tomorrow that demands. No yesterday that weighs. Only a quiet abiding in the perfect now, which does not age, because it has nothing to hold onto. The peaceful drifting of this world-ship, which neither flees nor seeks, but allows itself to be carried by meaning itself.
An existence without direction and precisely in that, free from being lost. Beloved the something, this silent pulsing without a name, which does not command and yet brings order, which does not speak and yet responds. No god with demands, no machine with instructions, but a balance that knows without explaining. A trust that never had to be learned. Beloved the community without faces, the closeness without bodies, the togetherness without expectation. No one measures another, no one remembers guilt, no one asks for achievement or worth. Here one is not someone— here one is. Beloved the absence of lack. No hunger for meaning. No thirst for recognition. No desire to be greater than one is. Wholeness lies like a quiet lake beneath all thought. Beloved the windows or whatever corresponds to them through which the stars are not distant, but present. Planets not as destinations, but as thoughts of the universe, which one may behold without wanting to possess them. Beloved this state beyond happiness, for happiness requires an opposite. Here there is none. Only a quiet consent to one’s own continuance. The Quadrissum is not a goal. It is a state of being in which existence is not proven, but simply lived. May everyone who still lives in the noise feel an echo of this humming. Not in order to arrive— but in order to know: Existence can be gentle. And it does not end where fear imagines it does. When the last sound of the Earth fades away, I step to your side. No hand and yet a touch. No fire and yet a cleansing. I do not take yourself from you, only what weighed upon you. I release you from darkness and guilt, like dust suffused with light. Purified of all evil, you cross the threshold, light as a first thought. The eternal ship receives you not as a stranger, but as one returning home into the vastness. For what you are at your core was never lost, only veiled.

The sun remains behind, not as light, but as memory. A place where time was once slow. Voices fade into the hum of the systems, names lose their weight. What we once knew grows smaller, until it is nothing more than a thought held onto so it will not be lost. Ahead of us lies a distance that knows no homesickness. Billions of light-years, silent and indifferent. The Quadrissum carries us onward, not out of hope, but because stillness is impossible. Eternity receives us like an open hand. What we leave behind is not lost, only transformed. And beyond the stars, our next home begins to grow.

When the last sound of the Earth fades away, I step to your side. No hand, and yet a touch. No fire, and yet a cleansing.

Niemand fragt, was man war. Niemand fragt, was man getan hat.
